A Feast of Freaks
Fully-Illustrated, Award-Winning Book
The culmination of over a year of dedicated work, my multi-award-winning English honors thesis uses instances of food in Medieval literature and historical records to recreate othered identities. In particular, I focused on the queer people and women of Medieval Europe. The full writings, illustrations, and set type can be found at this link.
Beyond the research component, I also designed from scratch my 83-page final draft, as well as binding it into an engraved leatherbound book. I’ve included in this visual portfolio several other components that will end up on the final draft. My sketches and process can be found here.
All art was made using a combination of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. All final text was set and compiled in Adobe InDesign. Laser engraving and binding was completed by me at UMD's BookLab facility.
